Google Business Profiles Overview

0:00 So this is an overview of Google Business Profiles — what they are, how to set them up, and why you need one.

0:07 Google refers to your Google Business Profile as your new homepage. When someone searches for your business or services you offer, your Google Business Profile will likely appear on the right-hand side of search results.

0:23 This is our new Google Business Profile. You can see the basic structure: a map showing your physical location or service area.

0:33 If you have a brick-and-mortar location, that will be pinpointed. If you go out to customers (e.g., you’re a plumber), you’ll be classed as a service area business.

0:47 For service area businesses, set up the areas you serve in your profile. In this example, we’ve selected the whole of the UK as our service area.

1:03 You can add your logo, images of your property, photos of your work, and videos.

1:12 Reviews have a big impact. Try to collect as many as possible. Ask current or past customers to leave a review.

1:27 The more reviews you have, the more likely Google is to rank your business higher in search results. If your competitors have more, they’ll outrank you.

1:45 Fill out your business details — opening hours, phone number, website, etc.

1:54 Add products — or if you don’t sell physical products, list your services under products to get more real estate in your profile.

2:06 Add relevant categories and FAQs. You can even ask and answer your own frequently asked questions.

2:16 Posts are very important. You can add updates, news, offers, etc., with images and links back to your website.

2:34 These posts are essential. Fill out your profile in as much detail as possible.

Why Your Google Business Profile Matters

2:44 Here’s why this matters. When someone searches for services near them, Google shows the top three local results — this is called the “local map pack.”

2:53 The local pack displays the top three businesses Google believes are the best match for the search based on location, keywords, and profile completeness.

3:03 You might see 39 reviews, 2 reviews, 104 reviews — this plays a huge role in visibility. Click to see more businesses, but most people don’t go beyond the top three.

3:27 To be in the top three, your profile needs to be complete and relevant. Otherwise, you’ll get no visibility — no traffic, no phone calls, no clicks.

3:41 Step one: Set up your Google Business Profile and complete every section. It’s the foundation of your local visibility.
